Experts rate Italy's premier wines among the world's finest. In the country are planted both white and red grapes, but there is a little supremacy of white wines over red and rose. The glories of Piedmont region are the robust, rich, multidimensional red wines made from the Nebbiolo grape.

Among the wines of Italy are Amarone, Barbaresco, Barolo, Brunello di Montalzcino, Chianti, and Vino Nobile de Montepulciano. Over the past ten years many Italian wine producers have concentrated on producing higher quality of wine resulting in a lower quanity, with the result of an increase in the value of the wine exported.
